Our Australian Native Plants Garden / Cheap Garden Lighting

Our garden lighting is made using sandstone rocks and 12 volt halogen globes. These lights cost around $6 and take about 30 minutes to make. The process is:
1. Buy 12 V DC halogen globes with the coloured glass filter lenses (red, yellow, green and blue) at around $3.50
2. Buy halogen globe sockets with leads (around $1.50) and solder/join to garden light cable. I have used heat shrink tubing to cover these joins.
3. Select suitable sandstone rock and mark a circle using globe as outline where you want the light to go.
4. Using a masonry drill bit and electric impact drill - drill holes around globe outline and in centre
5. Use a cold chisel to shape hole to fit globe
6. Drill hole through rock for light leads
7. Insert socket leads, attach globe and connect to lighting system. Locate rock for desired affect and cover leads with mulch.
NOTE: These get very hot - so if you have children around I would suggest considering adding a perspex cover with some small ventilation screwed over face of globe hole
